About/Our Story

The Story of Granville Christian Academy

Over 20 years of preparing servant leaders for Christ.

In 1997, our founder, Cathy Pound, responded to a growing demand for private Christian education in Licking County, Ohio. What started as a small homeschool program for Spring Hills Baptist Church, pastored by Cathy’s husband Jeff, became Grace Haven Academy. Because of our growth, in 2014, we became our own nonprofit entity separate from the church and re-named to Granville Christian Academy, Licking County’s best kept secret. From the beginning, our purpose has been to partner with parents and local churches to develop life-long spiritual leaders for Christ. From our first homeschoolers to our more than 300 students today, each child that passes through our doors is here for God’s purposes. Together, they join a community of staff, teachers, parents, and alumni as part of the bigger story God is authoring through Granville Christian Academy.

GCA’s Mission

The mission of Granville Christian Academy is to partner with Christian families and local churches by creating a Christ-centered, nurturing environment with Biblically based academic excellence and character development, resulting in students who are becoming Christ-like and impacting their culture through servant leadership.

GCA's Logo

God’s Word is rich with examples of God equipping who He calls.  He demonstrates His desire and willingness to use each of his children in unique ways while proving His power.  Those who choose to make themselves available for God’s work are His servant leaders who accomplish much for the Kingdom.  In Exodus, the account is written of God calling Moses to a life of servant leadership through the flaming bush, which was on fire but not consumed nor burned. Though Moses was humble and felt himself not worthy, God provided all he needed to lead God’s chosen people in the pursuit of His plans for them. It was in this passage that God called himself “I AM,” using Moses to foreshadow Christ, the perfect servant leader.  For more than 20 years, Granville Christian Academy has had the vision of preparing servant leaders for Christ. The “flaming bush” in our logo allegorically represents this passage in that both the flaming branches and the root represent God’s call to the students at Granville Christian Academy.  It is His desire that these students become “deeply rooted” in a faith that will burn brightly throughout their lives.  We at GCA have chosen to follow God’s calling and join Him in this mission.  It is our hope and desire that students find GCA to be a place where they can grow their faith through mentorship and discipleship; become deeply rooted in it; become bright flames for Christ that never burn out; choose a life of service and servant leadership; feel confident in using the gifts and talents with which they have been blessed; and seek to discover the great “I AM” all the days of their lives.
