Junior Joe Benvie breaks the GCA Athletic Record!
01.26.2021 / By Granville Christian Academy
In January, junior Joe Benvie led GCA to a win against Northside Christian while breaking the school record for the most points scored in a single game. Joe had 51 points in a single game and is the first boys basketball player to break that number so far this season in all of central Ohio. Our school record here at GCA was broken last year by Joe’s older brother, Thomas Benvie, who scored 43 points in a single game. 270Hoops, a group that covers all basketball games for central Ohio, posted an article on Joe on Tuesday. “No matter who you’re playing, if you score over 50 points in a game, you can flat out HOOP. Notching the first 50 ball of the season in the central ohio area on Tuesday night, Granville Christian junior wing Joe Benvie exploded for 51 points in an 83-73 league win over Northside Christian. Meaning business from the opening tip, Benvie got the fun started in the first quarter when he accounted for 23 of his team’s 26 points in the quarter, connecting on three triples and seven two-point field goals in the frame. Taking no steps backwards in the second, the junior wing continued to light it up by dropping 16 points in the quarter to give himself 39 at the break as the Lions held a comfortable 53-39 lead. While he slowed down bit in the second half, Benvie still managed 11 points in the final sixteen minutes and made the most of some big free throw opportunities late to seal the win for his squad.” Joe’s younger brother Andrew Benvie added 11 points along with junior Brendon Austin adding 10 for the Lions. Congrats to the Lions on their league win and to Joe for achieving this career moment! GO LIONS!
